Repurpose.io Not Posting or Syncing? A Step-by-Step Troubleshooting Guide
· 5 min read

When a reposting tool stops posting, it is tempting to blame the tool and switch. Most of the time the cause is one of a handful of things: the source is not giving the tool new videos, a connection expired, the destination rejected the video, or a limit was hit. This guide walks through each of them for Repurpose.io in the order that finds the cause fastest.
Start here: where does the video stop?
Every automatic repost goes through three steps. Find the step where your video stops, then jump to that section.
| Step | What should happen | If it stops here |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Fetch | The tool sees the new video on the source account | Videos not showing up |
| 2. Queue | The video is matched to a workflow and queued for each destination | Videos seen but not queued |
| 3. Publish | The destination app accepts and publishes the video | Publishing fails |
Before anything else, check that every connected account is still active. An expired connection causes failures at all three steps. Our account connection guide covers that.
Videos not showing up
If the new TikTok, Reel or Short never appears in the tool’s content list, the problem is at the source.
- Sync timing. Most tools check sources on a timer rather than instantly. A video posted a few minutes ago may simply not have been fetched yet. Wait for the next sync, or use the tool’s manual fetch or refresh button if it has one, before assuming something is broken.
- Private or restricted videos. Videos set to private, friends only, or age-restricted are often not available to third-party tools.
- Wrong source account. Check that the workflow’s source is the account you actually posted on, not a second account with a similar name.
- Instagram Reels source. Instagram only shares Reels from professional accounts with tools. A personal account will show no content at all.
- YouTube source. YouTube Shorts as a source can be limited by plan or trial, and Shorts removed or made private on YouTube disappear from the list.
- Edited videos. Editing a caption after posting does not always update the copy the tool already fetched. If the content list shows old text, the fetched copy is older than your edit.
- Empty feeds. Feed-based sources (podcasts, RSS) show nothing when the feed URL is wrong or the feed has no new items.
Videos seen but not queued
The video is in the content list but nothing happens. Usually a workflow setting stops it on purpose:
- The workflow is off or disabled. Tools disable workflows after repeated failures or when a plan limit is reached. Check its status first.
- The workflow only handles new content. Workflows for future videos skip anything posted before the workflow was created. Use an “existing content” option to send older videos.
- Manual mode. Some workflows wait for you to approve each video.
- Filters. Rules based on hashtags, length or keywords can skip a video without an error.
- Zero-second or very short videos. Videos with no readable duration are often skipped.
- Delays. A workflow can be set to publish after a delay. The video is queued, just not yet.
Publishing fails
The video reaches the destination and is rejected, or the tool reports a failed job. Read the error message first, since it usually names the cause. The common ones:
- Format or length. Each destination has its own rules for duration, aspect ratio and file size. A video that is fine on TikTok can be too long for one destination or the wrong shape for another.
- Posting limits. Platforms limit how many videos an account can publish through their API in a day, and some tools add their own per-hour limits. Posting a backlog all at once hits these quickly. Spread it out.
- Audio and copyright. Music that is licensed on TikTok may be blocked or muted on YouTube or Instagram.
- Permissions. A Page role or channel permission was removed.
- Duplicate uploads. Sending the same video twice, for example after reconnecting an account, can produce duplicates or a rejection. Check the destination before you retry.
- Upload failed without a reason. Temporary errors on the platform’s side happen. Retry once. If the same video fails again, the cause is the video or the account, not a glitch.
Turn on failure notifications if the tool offers them. A failed post you hear about the same day is easy to fix. One you discover a week later usually means several missed posts.
When reach drops after reposting
A different kind of “not working”: the posts go out, but views on the destination drop. That is rarely a tool problem. The usual reasons are visible watermarks from another app, captions and hashtags that do not fit the destination, and posting so often that each video competes with the last. Remove watermarks, adapt captions per destination, and keep a steady pace instead of flooding the account with old videos.
A troubleshooting checklist
- Every connected account shows as active.
- The workflow is on, set to the right source and destinations, and in automatic mode.
- The video is public on the source app and newer than the workflow (or you used an existing-content option).
- The video meets the destination’s length and format rules.
- You are not over the daily or hourly posting limit.
- The error message, if any, is saved with the date and time.
If all six are true and the post still fails, contact support with the workflow name, the video link, the time it should have posted and the error. That makes a fast answer much more likely.
When switching makes sense
Switching tools does not fix an expired connection or a video that breaks a platform rule. It is worth considering when posts fail repeatedly with no clear reason, when sync is too slow for how you work, or when support cannot explain failures.
If you want to compare, Repostit lets you test the same route without paying: the 14-day trial needs no credit card and includes 10 published posts, one account per platform and up to 3 workflows. Keep the first workflow on Manual, publish one test video, check it on the destination app, then switch to Auto. The Repurpose.io alternative comparison covers the differences, and our help center explains how auto-publishing works and what to do when an item is stuck in processing.
Common questions
How long should I wait before deciding a video is stuck?
Give it one full sync cycle plus any delay set on the workflow. If it is still missing after that, start with the fetch step above.
Why did old videos post when I only wanted new ones?
The workflow was set to include existing content, or it was recreated after the videos were posted. Check the workflow type before turning it on, and pause it while you fix it so the backlog does not hit posting limits.
Should I delete and recreate a broken workflow?
Only after you find the cause. Recreating a workflow can resend old videos and does not fix an expired connection or a format problem.
