Repurpose.io Account Connection Problems: Disconnects, Instagram 400 Errors, Missing Pages and Wrong Accounts

· 6 min read

Almost every reposting problem starts with an account connection: a TikTok that keeps disconnecting, an Instagram error that says the session is invalid, a Facebook Page that does not show up, or a video that went to the wrong account. This guide covers the connection problems people run into with Repurpose.io, why they happen, and how to fix them without reconnecting everything at random.

The fixes below are about how TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube grant access to third-party tools. Those rules are the same for every reposting tool, so the same checks apply if you use Repostit or anything else.

Find your problem

What you see Go to
An account keeps disconnecting or shows as expired Connections that keep dropping
Instagram error 400 or “session invalid” Instagram session errors
Your Facebook Page or Instagram account is missing from the list Missing Facebook Pages and channels
You can see a YouTube channel but cannot publish to it YouTube owner and manager access
The same account appears twice, or a connection was removed Duplicate or removed connections
A video was posted to the wrong account Posts going to the wrong account
You use a VPN, a proxy, two-factor login or a team member’s login VPN, 2FA and shared logins
Threads will not connect Threads connections

Connections that keep dropping

A connection is a permission the platform gives the tool. The platform can take it back at any time, and it usually does so for one of these reasons:

  • You changed the account password. On Facebook and Instagram this often ends every app session.
  • You removed the app in the platform’s own settings (for example Facebook’s “Business Integrations” or TikTok’s “Manage app permissions”).
  • The permission expired. Some platforms require you to confirm access again after a set period.
  • The platform flagged the login as unusual, often because of a VPN or a new device.
  • You lost a role on the Page or channel you were publishing to.

Fix it in this order: log in to the platform directly and check that the account works there, remove the old app permission in the platform’s settings, then reconnect from the tool in a clean browser window. Reconnecting without removing the old permission can leave a half-working connection that fails again within days.

Instagram session errors

Errors like “400” or “session invalid” mean Instagram rejected the stored login. The account itself is usually fine. Common causes:

  • The Instagram account is personal. Publishing tools need a professional account (Business or Creator).
  • For Business accounts, the Instagram account is not linked to a Facebook Page, or you are no longer an admin of that Page.
  • Instagram asked for a security check (a code or a confirmation in the app) that was never completed.

Open Instagram on your phone first and complete any pending security prompt. Check that the account is professional and, if needed, linked to the right Page. Then reconnect. If the same error returns within a day, the cause is usually a VPN or a shared login, covered below.

Missing Facebook Pages and channels

When you connect Facebook, Facebook shows a list of Pages and lets you choose which ones the tool may use. If you skipped a Page in that screen, the tool will never see it. The same happens when the Instagram account belongs to a Page you did not select.

  1. Go to Facebook settings, then Business Integrations, and open the tool’s entry.
  2. Edit the settings and tick every Page and Instagram account you want to publish to.
  3. Reconnect in the tool and choose the Page again.

Facebook personal profiles and Groups are a separate case. Facebook does not let third-party tools publish Reels to personal profiles, so a reposting tool can only publish to Pages.

YouTube owner and manager access

On YouTube, the person who connects the channel needs a role that allows uploads. Channel owners can always connect. Managers and editors can upload in YouTube Studio, but some tools need the owner or a manager with full rights to grant API access. If you can see the channel but uploads fail, ask the owner to connect it, or to give your Google account the Manager role in YouTube Studio settings under Permissions.

Brand Accounts add another layer: make sure you choose the channel itself, not your personal Google account, in the Google sign-in screen.

Duplicate or removed connections

The same account can appear twice when you reconnect without removing the old connection, or when two team members connect the same account with their own logins. Duplicates cause double posts or posts that fail because one copy has expired.

Keep one connection per account. Remove the old one, then check every workflow that used it, because a workflow pointing at a removed connection will stop publishing without warning. If connections disappeared after a plan change, check whether your plan allows more than one account per platform.

Posts going to the wrong account

This almost always comes from one of three things: a workflow that still points at an old destination, two accounts with similar names, or a browser that was logged in to the wrong account when you connected. Before you turn automation back on:

  • Open each workflow and read the source and destination names out loud. It sounds silly but catches most mistakes.
  • Rename connected accounts or workflows so client and personal accounts cannot be confused.
  • Connect accounts in a private browser window, logged in only to the account you mean to connect.
  • Delete the wrong post on the platform as soon as you find it, then publish one test post to the right account.

VPN, 2FA and shared logins

VPNs and proxies. Platforms watch where logins come from. Connecting through a VPN in one country and then posting from servers in another can look like a stolen account. Turn the VPN off while you connect accounts.

Two-factor login. 2FA is good and does not block reposting tools. You complete the code once while connecting, and the platform then gives the tool its own permission. If the connection breaks, it is usually because a new 2FA prompt is waiting in the app.

Team members and assistants. Sharing a password with a VA triggers security checks and breaks connections. Give team members their own access through the platform instead: a Page role on Facebook, a channel permission on YouTube, or access in the reposting tool itself if it supports team members.

Threads connections

Threads uses Instagram for login, so most Threads connection problems are Instagram problems: a personal account, a pending security check, or a recent password change. Fix Instagram first, then connect Threads. Also check that the tool you use supports Threads as a destination for the content type you post.

How connections work in Repostit

Repostit connects each app with its own official sign-in, so you never give Repostit your password. A few things that keep connections stable:

  • Connect from a regular browser window with pop-ups allowed, logged in only to the account you want to connect.
  • On Facebook, tick every Page you will publish to in the permission screen.
  • After connecting, keep the first workflow on Manual, publish one test video and check it on the destination app before switching to Auto.

The help center has step-by-step guides for each app: TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube. If you are moving from Repurpose.io, the alternative comparison explains the differences.

Common questions

Will reconnecting an account delete my scheduled posts?

It depends on the tool. In most tools workflows keep their settings when you reconnect the same account, but posts queued while the account was disconnected may need to be sent again. Check the queue after reconnecting.

Why does it work for a few days and then break again?

A connection that fails repeatedly is usually caused by something outside the tool: a VPN, a shared login, a password manager changing the password, or a lost Page role. Fix that cause first, or you will keep reconnecting.

Can I connect accounts I do not own?

Only with the owner’s permission and through proper roles. For client accounts, ask the client to add you as a Page admin or channel manager rather than sharing their password.
