Repurpose.io Video Quality, Captions, Hashtags and Music: How to Get Clean Reposts

· 4 min read

A repost can technically succeed and still look wrong: blurry video, captions with broken line breaks, hashtags that make no sense on the new app, music that gets muted, or a thumbnail picked from a random frame. This guide covers the quality and metadata problems people report with Repurpose.io and what you can control, both in the tool and in how you make the original video.

Video quality

Low resolution or blurry reposts

The repost can only be as good as the copy the tool downloads. Check these in order:

  1. The source file. If the original was uploaded at 720p, every repost will be 720p or worse. Upload the original in 1080 × 1920.
  2. What the source app returns. Some apps give tools a compressed copy rather than your original upload. Compare the repost with the video downloaded from the source app itself.
  3. Backups and intermediate copies. If the workflow passes through cloud storage first, check the resolution of the file saved there. A 720p backup means a 720p repost.
  4. The destination’s processing. Instagram and YouTube re-encode every upload. A video can look soft for the first minutes after posting while the higher-quality version is processed.

Vertical format and cropping

Short-form apps expect 9:16 at 1080 × 1920. A horizontal video reposted as a Short or Reel gets black bars or a crop. If you repurpose long videos, cut a vertical version first rather than relying on automatic reframing.

Watermarks

A TikTok watermark on Instagram or YouTube makes the post look recycled and can reduce reach. Check whether your tool removes watermarks on every plan and for every source, and look at the first few reposts to confirm the watermark is really gone.

Captions and descriptions

  • Line breaks. Line breaks can be lost or doubled when a caption moves between apps. Short captions with one line break survive best. Check how the first repost looks on each destination.
  • Hashtags. Hashtags that work on TikTok (#fyp and similar) are meaningless on YouTube or LinkedIn. Use caption templates per destination, or strip hashtags where they do not help.
  • Emoji. Most destinations accept emoji, but some fields (YouTube titles, for example) have length limits that emoji eat quickly.
  • Removing the description. If a destination should get no caption at all, set an empty template for that destination rather than deleting the caption at the source.
  • AI rewriting. Automatic caption rewriting saves time but can change meaning, brand terms or claims. Review AI captions for the first week, and do not turn on fully automatic publishing of rewritten text for client accounts.
  • Other languages. Check that titles and captions in non-Latin scripts (Arabic, for example) keep their direction and characters on every destination.
  • Burned-in subtitles. Subtitles burned into the video travel with it to every app. Separate caption files usually do not. If accessibility matters, burn them in before you post the original.

Titles, thumbnails and cover images

YouTube Shorts use the first line of the caption as the title when no title is set, so a caption that starts with hashtags becomes an ugly title. Set a title template for YouTube. Thumbnails for Shorts are picked by YouTube from the video frames. A clear first frame (a face or the key visual) gives the best result. For Reels, you can choose the cover in Instagram after posting if the tool does not set it.

Music and audio

Music is the most common reason a repost is muted, blocked or limited. A song from TikTok’s library is licensed for TikTok, not automatically for YouTube or Instagram.

  • Use original audio or royalty-free music for videos you plan to repost.
  • If a destination mutes or blocks a video, check its copyright notice before reposting again.
  • Platform music libraries (adding a trending sound inside the app) cannot be added by a third-party tool. Add the sound manually after posting if it matters.
  • Do not try to remove copyrighted music with tricks such as pitch shifting. It rarely works and can get the account flagged.

Carousels and image posts

Photo carousels and static image posts follow different rules from video. Some destinations accept carousels, some only single images, and music on TikTok photo posts may not carry over. Check that your tool supports images for each destination before you build a workflow around them.

A quality checklist for the first week

  1. Upload originals in 1080 × 1920 with original or royalty-free audio.
  2. Set a caption template per destination, with hashtags that fit that app.
  3. Set a YouTube title template so titles do not start with hashtags.
  4. Check the first repost on each destination app: resolution, watermark, caption, title and sound.
  5. Only then turn on automatic publishing.

How Repostit handles this

Repostit sends every copy without the TikTok watermark, keeps your caption, and lets you keep a workflow on Manual so you can check the first posts before switching to Auto. You can test this on your own videos with the 14-day trial, no credit card needed. See features or the Repurpose.io alternative comparison.

Common questions

Why does my Reel look worse than the TikTok?

Instagram compresses uploads, especially in the first minutes. If it still looks soft after an hour, compare the resolution of the file the tool downloaded with your original upload.

Can a tool remove music from a video?

Not reliably. Music is mixed into the audio track. Keep a version without licensed music if you plan to repost on several apps.

Should captions be the same everywhere?

The core message can be. Hashtags, mentions and calls to action should fit each app.

Post once. Repostit shares it everywhere else.

14 days free. No credit card needed.
